Our Approach

Recruiting

We recognize that our ability to attract and retain law students and lateral attorneys of diverse backgrounds is fundamental to our success. Diversity encourages innovative perspectives, enhances our collaboraive efforts and makes us more effective in interacting with our clients and identifying their needs. With that in mind, our recruiting efforts are geared towards attracting the best and the brightest candidates from varied cultures, backgrounds and experiences. We cultivate relationships with law schools, professional organizations and community organizations and participate in the following programs:

  • Harvard Law School Black Law Students Association (BALSA) Annual Spring Conference
    Hughes Hubbard has participated in this series of panel discussions and legal seminars designed for minority law students and mid-career professionals.
  • Lavender Law®
    Hughes Hubbard is participating in the Lavender Law® Conference and Career Fair, hosted by National LGBT Bar Association, which brings together “the best and brightest legal minds in the LGBT community.” The career fair, held on the first day of the three-day conference, draws over 500 students and features over 130 recruiters.
  • Minority Job Fairs

    - Latino Law Student Association Job Fair
  • Minority Lateral Recruiting Conference
    Hughes Hubbard has participated in the Minority Lateral Recruiting Conference sponsored by the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, where the firm conducted interviews of minority attorneys applying for lateral positions.
  • Practicing Attorneys for Law Students Program, Inc. (PALS)
    Hughes Hubbard is actively involved with PALS, an organization that provides educational, mentoring, and career guidance programs to over 600 minority students from thirteen law schools in the New York metropolitan area. In the past, Hughes Hubbard has hosted a seminar for PALS minority law school students entitled "How to Be an Effective Summer Associate."George Davidson, Chair of Hughes Hubbard's Litigation practice, is a member of the PALS Board of Directors
  • The Thurgood Marshall Summer Internship Program
    Hughes Hubbard has participated in the Thurgood Marshall Summer Internship Program sponsored by the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, providing paying summer jobs to inner-city high school students.
  • Vault/MCCA Legal Diversity Job Fair & Leadership Summit
    Hughes Hubbard has participated in this career fair to connect top legal employers with the best and brightest minority law students and lateral associates.
