Hughes Hubbard has an active, standing committee to address issues of diversity at the firm as well as several task forces of associates. The associates task force for diversity assists in developing and maintaining policies to sustain the successful recruitment and retention of a diverse associate body at the entry and lateral associate level. It is also intended to identify speakers and outside organizations including cultural, artistic and policy based organizations with which we would like to participate.
A task force on mentoring, which promotes meaningful links between junior and senior-level lawyers, has implemented a program that matches first-year associates with two mentors: a second- or third-year associate and a fourth-year associate or higher, a design that is intended to foster a multi-dimensional relationship benefiting all three. There is also a task force on training and career development, which evaluates existing efforts in this area and looks for ways to expand and improve formal in-house training, associate access to continuing legal education, bar committee memberships and associate writing and speaking engagements, among other efforts.
