When it comes to handling labor and employment law issues, Hughes Hubbard stands out from other law firms.  The extensive range and experience of our Labor and Employment Group allows us to represent corporations, banks and educational institutions, as well as not-for-profit entities.  We offer clients the depth and array of services they would find at a labor and employment boutique, coupled with the high-quality proficiency and additional specialties of a full-service international law firm.

Other firms our size tend to lack labor and employment specialties or use regular litigators to handle specialized labor and employment matters.  In addition to specialized litigation and arbitration, we represent clients in all matters pertaining to their employment by providing them with strategic counsel and services that minimize, if not altogether avoid, disruptive and costly legal action.  These include:

    • ADA Accommodations
    • Adverse Impact Analysis
    • Claim Investigation
    • Contract Negotiation
    • Collective Bargaining
    • Defamation
    • Discipline and Discharge
    • Discrimination
    • Drug Testing
    • Executive Compensation
    • Employee Handbooks
    • Employment Policies
    • Family and Medical Leave
    • Fraud
    • Government Contract Compliance
    • Grievances
    • Harassment Training
    • Mergers and Acquisitions
    • Non-Competes & Non-Solicitations
    • Reductions-in-Force
    • Reorganizations
    • Sexual Harassment Complaints
    • Theft of Trade Secrets
    • Transfers and Promotions
    • Unfair Competition
    • Union Organizing
    • Wage and Hour Compliance

One quality clients find most attractive about our practice is that every member of our team is well-versed in the full range of employment law issues.  For example, instead of having to deal with one specialist on harassment concerns and another on ADA-related matters, our clients receive individualized service and work directly with experts who can help them with all of their needs.

As a full-service firm, we also provide a broader range of additional capabilities clients cannot find at a boutique.  In today’s climate, most labor and employment matters touch on various other areas of law, such as intellectual property, tax and employee benefits.  When these issues arise, Hughes Hubbard has lawyers in all of these areas readily available to provide timely, efficient and specialized service.

Preventing litigation is always our first line of defense; however, when the courtroom cannot be avoided, our litigators’ knowledge and experience in federal, state and local law has earned the Hughes Hubbard Labor and Employment Group an unsurpassed record of success.

Our attorneys have extensive experience in litigating matters of sexual harassment, and various employment discrimination claims in court and before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and similar state agencies.  For example, our labor and employment team persuaded the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission to dismiss a claim against Sumitomo Bank by a former employee alleging race and national origin discrimination and retaliation.

Our Labor and Employment attorneys have extensive experience and an unbeatable record in litigation and arbitration throughout the United States and France, including matters before the courts, EEOC, FEP agencies and regulatory bodies.
