April 20, 2022 – Matthew Syrkin, Global Chair of Hughes Hubbard’s Media, Technology and Commercial Transactions Group, has been honored by Variety in its 2022 Legal Impact Report

This annual list profiles the top attorneys in the media, technology and entertainment industries, as identified by Variety’s writers and editors. Syrkin’s inclusion marks the eighth time in less than five years that he’s been recognized by Variety as an elite dealmaker and leading lawyer in the industry.

“Matt has a unique combination of skills that make him one of the best corporate lawyers in the media and technology sectors,” said firm Chair Ted Mayer. “It’s no surprise to see him be recognized yet again for his extraordinary work.”

The Variety profile on Syrkin explores his deep knowledge of entertainment technology across of variety of clients and deals, including his role in advising Sotheby’s, the 278-year-old British auction house, on the launch of its NFT marketplace — the Sotheby’s Metaverse; counseling Roku on buying and integrating Nielsen’s advanced video advertising business; guiding WarnerMedia in its HBO Max expansion into Latin America; and representing Madison Square Garden Entertainment across a variety of innovative and tech-driven transactions.

“While my kids would have preferred I landed the lead role in the Obi Wan Kenobi series as an industry achievement, you cannot help but feel honored when Variety recognizes your expertise in driving transactions impacting the technology and media sectors”, said Syrkin. “My parents, Pam and Dave, deserve credit for supporting my unwavering commitment to Star Wars since I was a boy, where I first developed, and still maintain, a fascination with emerging technologies and their consumer applications. As a self-proclaimed “gearhead”, I am humbled to again be recognized by Variety along with the leading professionals in the industry,” he remarked.
