July 19, 2019 — Hughes Hubbard drafted contracts that enabled Ensemble Signal, a New York-based contemporary music ensemble, to participate in Reich Richter Pärt, one of the first projects put on at The Shed, New York City's newest arts center and performing arts space, and the cultural centerpiece of Hudson Yards.

Reich Richter Pärt was described by The Shed as "an immersive live performance and exhibition in two parts... [which] explores the shared sensory language of visual art and music."

Ensemble Signal performed the world premiere of Reich/Richter, a 37-minute work by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Steve Reich, which accompanied a film by Gerhardt Richter and Corinna Belz.  The New Yorker called Reich/Richter "one of the composer's strongest works in recent years, recapturing the spacious, swirling beauty of 'Music for 18 Musicians,' his classic piece of the nineteen-seventies." Ensemble Signal has collaborated with Reich for almost a decade, performing and recording his work.

Reich Richter Pärt took place from April 6 to June 2, 2019, and was performed four times a day, six days a week.  Over the course of the project, Ensemble Signal performed Reich/Richter over 100 times.

Ensemble Signal's participation in Reich Richter Pärt was covered by The Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, The New York Times and The New Yorker.

Michael Salzman, Caroline Parker-Beaudrias and Hannah Miller represented Ensemble Signal on this matter.
