On Oct. 29, 2013, the one-year anniversary of Superstorm Sandy, Hughes Hubbard was among the individuals, law firms and community organizations honored by the New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG) for their support of the community in a time of crisis.

In the immediate aftermath of the storm, Hughes Hubbard’s pro bono attorneys functioned as legal first responders in hard-hit neighborhoods, working side by side with NYLAG attorneys at community sites and aboard NYLAG’s Mobile Legal Help Center to provide legal advice to victims of the storm. The firm’s pro bono contributions were critically important to NYLAG’s overall disaster response effort.

“We are grateful to Hughes Hubbard and the entire New York legal community,” said Yisroel Schulman, NYLAG’s president and attorney-in- charge. “Their support made it possible for NYLAG to respond quickly and effectively to the legal needs of low-income New Yorkers at a time of unprecedented crisis.”

Vilia Hayes and Jeremy Turk (who sits on NYLAG’s Associate Board) attended the event. Hayes accepted the award on behalf of Hughes Hubbard; it is now on display in the 10th floor reception area of the firm’s New York office.
