March 11, 2021 – Hughes Hubbard is pleased to announce that Ruben Diaz has been named managing partner of the firm’s Miami office. Diaz, an international transactional partner in Hughes Hubbard’s corporate group, is also co-chair of the firm’s Latin America practice. He will oversee the day-to-day management of the office.

The managing partner role is transitioning from Amy Dulin, who has a leading Latin American Banking & Finance practice and serves as co-chair of the firm’s Banking & Financial Services group. Dulin will continue to focus on her thriving international corporate finance practice, in addition to serving in other leadership roles.

“Ruben started his career here as an associate, then worked with us for many years as a client before joining us as partner, and has since become an integral member of our firm,” said Ted Mayer, chair and managing partner of Hughes Hubbard. “He is a highly regarded and excellent attorney with a keen sense of firm culture, and has been a tremendous benefit to our clients and to us.”

Diaz has significant experience advising on cross-border investment, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and corporate finance, as well as international arbitration and dispute resolution. Prior to joining Hughes Hubbard as partner, Ruben served as Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel of a privately-held Central American group with businesses in key sectors and has worked in key industries including banking and finance, agribusiness, liquor, energy, health care, real estate and information technology. He also previously served as Head of the Latin America Legal Practice at Ernst & Young.

“As someone who started his legal career at Hughes Hubbard, this firm is like home to me,” said Diaz. “I am excited to take on this new role and continue my strong support of the firm’s clients and culture, particularly in Miami and Latin America.”

Hughes Hubbard opened its Miami office in 1995.
