New York, October 3, 2016 – Hughes Hubbard & Reed LLP announced today that Shane Stroud will join the firm as a partner in the Firm’s New York office. Stroud’s practice focuses on employee benefits and executive compensation (EBEC) issues, including those issues related to mergers and acquisitions. He joins the firm from Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft.

In addition to his transactional work, Stroud also advises clients on a wide range of non-transactional EBEC issues, from equity-based and incentive compensation plans, to deferred compensation plans and severance agreements. He also counsels clients with respect to bankruptcy, securities, corporate governance, and other issues affecting employee benefits and executive compensation matters.

“Shane is a thoughtful advisor, a creative problem-solver and a tough negotiator. He has advised on an impressive array of major M&A transactions, and has a reputation for giving practical business advice,” said Spencer L. Harrison, chair of Hughes Hubbard’s Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation Practice. “Shane has particularly strong experience in pharmaceuticals, media and entertainment and professional services – all sectors where our firm has a strong client base and where we see good opportunities for growth. We are excited to have him on the team.”

Stroud regularly advises clients on the implementation and design of qualified and non-qualified employee benefit plans, including health and welfare plans, 401(k) plans, employee stock ownership plans, and supplemental executive retirement plans. He also advises clients on a wide variety of ERISA issues, including plan reporting and disclosure, participation, vesting, funding, benefit accrual, fiduciary responsibility, prohibited transactions, plan terminations, and employer withdrawal liability issues.

“I am excited to join Hughes Hubbard, where I see great opportunities to grow my practice and contribute to the Firm’s success,” said Stroud. “The Firm is a great fit for me, in terms of practice and client mix, as well as the professionalism and sense of teamwork among my new colleagues.”

Stroud received his B.A. in History from the University of New Orleans and his J.D., magna cum laude, from Tulane Law School, where he was a member of the Order of the Coif. He served as a clerk to The Honorable Morey L. Sear of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.
