Hughes Hubbard & Reed was honored with the “Allegiance Award” by Kids in Need of Defense (KIND) for its work with the organization on behalf of unaccompanied immigrant and refugee children.

Hughes Hubbard was one of the law firms honored at KIND’s annual pro bono awards ceremony, “Coming Together for Children Alone,” held on April 20, 2016, at Cipriani 25 Broadway in New York City. The ceremony recognized the Walt Disney Company and four law firms for their efforts to support pro bono legal representation for unaccompanied refugee and immigrant children in the United States.

The “Allegiance Award” honors select law firm pro bono partners in recognition of their commitment to KIND, including pro bono hours and other innovative contributions that have helped advance KIND’s mission.

Vilia Hayes accepted the award on behalf of the firm and gave brief remarks. A KIND client who is being represented by Hayes, Trudy Dako, Kevin Braker and Julia Zousmer attended the event and presented the award. The client immigrated from Guatemala in 2012 at the age of 14. Hughes Hubbard secured special immigrant juvenile status for her in 2015.
