Oct. 13, 2025 – Jeremy Paner authored an article for The Dow Jones Risk Journal identifying OFAC’s ongoing enforcement priorities and offering risk mitigation considerations.

In the article, Paner breaks down the Trump administration’s focus on Mexican drug cartels and Iranian oil, which expose significant risk to any multinationals operating in Mexico or those that ship, broker, insure, finance, refine, or otherwise engage in dealings involving petroleum.

“The complexity and evolution of U.S. economic sanctions requires multinational companies to focus their limited compliance resources on OFAC’s enforcement priorities, which are directed by the White House,” Paner wrote. “Fortunately, the risks arising from those ongoing priorities can be seamlessly mitigated through unobtrusive means.”

Jeremy explains that those risks may be mitigation through appropriate use of sanctions event clauses, adverse media and identification of blocked payments.
