February 14, 2019 — The firm served as counsel in a transaction named a 2019 “Deal of the Year” by China Business Law Journal (CBLJ), a magazine for China-focused business and legal practitioners.

HHR advised Roberta Lipson, the founder and CEO of United Family Healthcare (UFH), on the $1.44 billion sale of the Chinese private hospital operator and healthcare provider to Hong Kong-based investment vehicle New Frontier Corp. (NYSE: NFC).

CBLJ recognized the sale as “Deal of the Year” in the acquisition category of the Deals in China section. The sale was also shortlisted as a finalist for “Private Equity Deal of the Year” in International Financial Law Review’s Asia-Pacific Awards 2020.

CBLJ, which honors China-related deals and cases annually, announced this year’s winners on Feb. 13 across three other sections: Overseas Deals; Disputes and Investigations; and Belt and Road. The journal’s editorial team makes its selections based on the size, overall significance, complexity and innovative nature of the deals.

HHR previously represented UFH in the sale of UFH to private equity firm TPG and Chinese healthcare group Shanghai Fosun Pharma in 2014. Founded in Beijing in 1997, UFH was the first and remains China's largest U.S.-invested healthcare provider.

Gary Simon led the HHR team, which included Spencer Harrison, Erin DeCecchis and Jenny Graham.
