Hughes Hubbard Receives Legal Aid Society's 2015 Pro Bono Publico Awards

Hughes Hubbard & Reed and a number of individual lawyers received 2015 Pro Bono Publico Awards for providing exceptional legal services to the Legal Aid Society and its clients.

The firm and 13 of its attorneys were honored Nov. 9 at the annual awards ceremony of the Legal Aid Society of New York. Sarah Cave was the sole recipient of the highest award to an individual, the "Public Interest Law Leadership Award," for her leadership in the pro bono community.

In addition, a team of Hughes Hubbard lawyers received the 2015 Pro Bono Publico Award for their work on the Kings County Homicide Conviction Review Project, an initiative that reviews wrongful-conviction claims and questionable convictions in Brooklyn. Other Hughes Hubbard lawyers were honored for contributions including success in combating eviction proceedings, training Legal Aid attorneys to take depositions and filing offers in compromise with federal and state tax authorities for indigent taxpayers who are unable to pay their tax liabilities.

The ceremony was held at The Prince George Ballroom in Manhattan. New York Court of Appeals Chief Judge Jonathan Lippman presided over the event and presented the awards.

The following attorneys were recognized: Elizabeth Houghton, Matt Reynolds, Meredith Stead, Lisa Cahill, Ted Mayer, Marc Weinstein, David Shanies, Alexandra Shookhoff, Alejo Cabranes, Ryan Kim, Nicole Garton and Carl Mills.
