December, 2019 — Hughes Hubbard has been selected for two honors in The Deal’s Cross-Border Asia Awards, which celebrates the leading firms and advisers transforming the region’s economy.

HHR served as lead legal advisor to Singapore-based ride-hailing service Grab in its acquisition of Uber Technologies Inc.’s business in Southeast Asia, which was awarded Technology, Media & Telecom Deal of the Year.

Corporate partner Ken Lefkowitz, who led the HHR team, was named Dealmaker of the Year. Lefkowitz also led the firm in its representation of Grab in a Series H round after the acquisition, which raised more than $4 billion. Investors included Toyota Motor Corp., Microsoft Corp., SoftBank Group Corp., and Hyundai Motor Co.

Winners were selected based on the complexity and success of the transactions. Individual winners were judged on their impact to the deal economy, the complexity and size of the deal and the process by which it took to get the deal done.

Grab’s acquisition of Uber’s Southeast Asian operations in March 2018 was the largest-ever deal of its kind in the region. Founded in 2012, Grab is Southeast Asia’s leading everyday super app.

In addition to Lefkowitz, the team included Chuck Samuelson, Spencer Harrison, Gerold Niggemann, Dena Smith, Justin Cohen, Erin DeCecchis, Jim Delaney, Amy G. Dulin, Andy Braiterman and Gary Simon.
