New York and Washington, D.C., January 5, 2024 – Hughes Hubbard & Reed is pleased to announce that effective Jan. 1, Valerie Ben-Or, Justin Cohen, Gregory Farrell and Anna Hamati, currently associates, have been made counsel to the firm.

The new counsel are resident in the firm’s New York and Washington, D.C. offices. Their practice areas include corporate, tax & employee benefits, litigation, and international trade.

Valerie Ben-Or, counsel, joined the firm’s Corporate practice group in 2021. Valerie represents corporations and investment management firms in a variety of corporate matters and transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, strategic investments, venture capital transactions, corporate restructurings, equity financings and general corporate matters.

Valerie received her J.D. from Brooklyn Law School (cum laude) in 2008 and her B.A. (cum laude) from New York University in 2005.

Justin Cohen, counsel, joined the firm’s Tax and Employee Benefits practice group in 2014. Justin’s practice focuses on the tax aspects of domestic and international mergers, acquisitions and spin-offs, aviation and equipment finance transactions, corporate finances, securities offerings and bankruptcy and financial restructurings. He also has experience working on the tax aspects of cross-border investment structuring, private equity and hedge fund formation.

Justin received his J.D. from University of Pennsylvania Law School in 2014 and his B.S. (magna cum laude) from Cornell University in 2010.

Gregory Farrell, counsel, joined the firm’s Litigation practice group in 2008. Gregory’s practice focuses on complex commercial and bankruptcy litigation. His past representations include Republic Airways Holdings Inc. and certain of its subsidiaries in their Chapter 11 reorganization proceeding, as well as the trustee in the Securities Investor Protection Act liquidations of Lehman Brothers Inc. and MF Global Inc., two of the largest bankruptcies in U.S. history.

Gregory received his J.D. from University of Pennsylvania Law School in 2008 and his B.A. (magna cum laude) from Arizona State University in 2004.

Anna Hamati, counsel, joined the firm’s Sanctions, Export Controls & Anti-money Laundering and International Trade practice groups in 2022. Anna assists clients with matters related to export controls and economic trade sanctions.

Anna received her J.D. from George Washington University Law School in 2015 and her B.A. from Northwestern University (Honors) in 2012.
