Hughes Hubbard Attorney Receives Haitian Lawyers Association’s ‘Advocacy Award’
Hughes Hubbard staff attorney Nancy Morisseau received the "Advocacy Award" from the Florida-based Haitian Lawyers Association (HLA) in recognition of her formidable efforts in advocating for the human rights of Dominicans of Haitian descent.
Morisseau was honored at the HLA's 18th Annual Scholarship Gala, held on March 12 at the JW Marriott in Miami.
Morisseau has been advocating on behalf of the hundreds of thousands of Dominicans of Haitian descent since the Dominican Republic passed a law in September 2013 that denationalized them, creating the largest stateless population in the Western Hemisphere and the fifth-largest in the world. In particular, she worked closely with New York State Assembly Member Rodneyse Bichotte in passing a statewide resolution denouncing the denationalization policies of the Dominican Republic affecting people of Haitian descent.
