Gaela Gehring Flores Joins Hughes Hubbard as Co-Chair of Arbitration Practice

Washington, D.C., April 8, 2024 – Hughes Hubbard & Reed LLP announced today that Gaela Gehring Flores has joined as partner and co-chair of the firm’s International Arbitration group. She will be based in the Washington, D.C., office.

A recognized global leader in international arbitration, Gehring Flores has acted as counsel in more than 60 international disputes. She has appeared before international tribunals in some of the best-known investment treaty arbitrations administered by the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes and the Permanent Court of Arbitration as well as before private international commercial tribunals in arbitrations administered by the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce, the London Court of International Arbitration, and the American Arbitration Association’s International Centre for Dispute Resolution.

Gehring Flores provides legal services to clients in a broad range of disputes in such fields as energy, intellectual property, artificial intelligence, natural resources, construction, hospitality, transportation, and government contracts. She also advises clients on enforcement of arbitral awards, drafting contractual dispute resolution clauses, and dispute prevention, strategy, and discovery in international proceedings. She has extensive experience in a variety of public international law issues, including foreign sovereign immunity.

During her career spanning nearly three decades, Gehring Flores has capitalized on her native Spanish skills and bicultural background while representing both multinational corporations and sovereign states in international commercial and investment arbitrations.

Gehring Flores received her J.D., cum laude, from the Georgetown University Law Center, where she was Managing Articles Editor of the Georgetown Law Journal and her B.A., summa cum laude, from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Gehring Flores served as law clerk to the Honorable Paul L. Friedman of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. She is on the international panel of arbitrators for the International Centre for Dispute Resolution. She is a member of the Advisory Board for The Wilson Center’s Latin American Program, serves as co-chair of the District of Columbia Bar International Dispute Resolution Committee, and is co-host of “The Tea on International Arbitration,” a podcast presented by the D.C. Bar.
