Gaela Gehring Flores, chair of Hughes Hubbard’s International Arbitration practice, has been named to the 2026 Lawdragon 500 Leading Global Litigators guide, which recognizes top lawyers worldwide for excellence in international arbitration, public international litigation and global controversies and investigations.
Gehring Flores has over 25 years of experience focused on representing both multinational corporations and sovereign states in international commercial and investment arbitrations, including handling over 60 high-stakes international disputes.
Gehring Flores recently led the firm’s successful defense of Panama in a $2 billion International Chamber of Commerce claim lodged by First Quantum Minerals’ affiliate Minera Panama, S.A. over the closure of the Cobre Panamá copper mine, as well as the firm’s representation of Colombia to defend against two ICSID claims: one brought by Chinese-owned mining company Continental Gold over one of the world’s largest ultra-high grade gold mines; and a second brought by Maritime Archaeology Consultants regarding claims concerning “the Holy Grail of shipwrecks”, the San José galleon, downed by British forces off the coast of Cartagena, Colombia in 1708.
