Firm Helps Patient Win Appeal for Disability Pay

Hughes Hubbard helped a 51-year old mother and patient at the Beth Israel Clinic win an appeal for retroactive and current Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits.
 
On Feb. 25, 2015, Administrative Law Judge Thomas Grabeel of the Office of Disability Adjudication and Review granted benefits to the client, who suffers from HIV/AIDs with peripheral neuropathies and fatigue, asthma, Hepatitis C and depression.
 
The Social Security Administration initially denied SSI benefits to the client in April 2013. After Beth Israel referred the case to Hughes Hubbard, Robert DeLay filed a memorandum of law on the claimant's behalf and represented her at a hearing before Judge Grabeel.
 
In his decision, Administrative Law Judge Grabeel found that the claimant's impairments met the severity requirements stipulated by federal regulations. Judge Grabeel held that the claimant met the Social Security Act's definition of disabled retroactive to the date she filed her initial application. The Social Security Administration confirmed that the claimant is now in pay status and she is receiving the benefits to which she has been entitled.
