Following Hughes Hubbard’s recognition as Law Firm of the Year: Midsize Firms at the New York Law Journal’s 2026 New York Legal Awards, Chair Neil Oxford and Managing Partner Robb Patryk discussed the firm’s recent accomplishments, growth strategy and client-focused approach with the publication.
The New York Law Journal honored Hughes Hubbard for significant litigation victories, sophisticated financings and transactions, strategic growth and meaningful pro bono achievements over the past year.
Among the firm’s highlights were its litigation and disputes successes, including continued success representing SKAT, Denmark’s tax authority, in one of the largest fraud recovery efforts ever pursued in U.S. courts, as well as numerous complex financings, restructurings, cross-border transactions and investigations.
Oxford and Patryk discussed the factors that drove the firm’s recognition, including its focus on delivering exceptional client service, investing in talent and fostering collaboration across practices and offices.
“We distinguish ourselves through a deliberately focused model built on senior judgment, collaboration and accountability,” they said. “We are intentionally lean and partner-led, ensuring clients work directly with experienced lawyers who take ownership, move quickly and align legal strategy with business objectives.”
Oxford and Patryk also noted that Hughes Hubbard derives strength from its independence, allowing the firm to remain nimble and focused on clients’ needs.
“Our independence is central to this approach. It allows us to remain agile, avoid unnecessary conflicts and assemble the right teams for each matter without being weighed down by unnecessary scale,” they said. “Clients come to Hughes Hubbard when the stakes are high and the path forward is not obvious – relying on our superior judgment, not just throwing resources at a problem for the sake of throwing resources.”
Looking ahead, Oxford and Patryk detailed the firm’s strategy for continued growth.
“Our strategy is anchored in delivering exemplary results for clients in our core areas of focus: litigation and disputes, finance, M&A and restructuring, where judgment and experience are critical,” they said. “We’re focused on areas where we have a clear competitive advantage rather than pursuing scale for its own sake. The result is a platform built around discipline, agility and accountability across practices.”
The article also highlighted the firm’s recent investments in technology and business development initiatives, including a firmwide AI platform, brand refresh and new website, all designed to enhance collaboration and client service.
