Daniel H. Weiner is Chair of Hughes Hubbard & Reed's Litigation Department, Chair of the Complex Business Disputes practice and a partner in the International & Domestic Arbitration and Intellectual Property Disputes groups. Dan is a seasoned trial lawyer who has first-chair experience in more than 30 litigations and arbitrations. He has been recognized as a leading international arbitration lawyer by Law360, The Legal 500 United States, Chambers USA, and Chambers Global, and ranked in Chambers USA as a leading lawyer both in commercial litigation and in art and cultural property law.

  • Representation of Bayer, Merck, Pfizer, Cipla, Forest Laboratories, and Zoetis in international joint venture and licensing disputes and commercial litigation and arbitrations
  • Representation of Lorillard and LG Group in national products liability actions involving cigarettes and hand-held cellular telephones
  • Representation of Cantor Fitzgerald, HBO and Bureau Veritas in commercial disputes and arbitrations
  • Winning first-of-its-kind jury verdict in representation of a former Wall Street executive facing a class action in a multimillion-dollar cryptocurrency Ponzi scheme
  • Representation of Sotheby's, Christie's, Phillips and Hauser & Wirth in commercial litigation and business advice, including consignment agreements, commission arrangements, and nonfungible tokens (NFTs)
  • Advised Sompo Holdings, the owner of one of Vincent van Gogh's iconic Sunflowers paintings, and its affiliates in winning dismissal of an action to recover the painting (valued at $250 million) plus $1.5 billion in damages brought by descendants of prominent German Jewish art collector
  • Representation of a Russian political activist in dismissed litigation with Alfa Bank seeking information related to a cyber-hack
  • Advised Robert A. Siegel Auction Galleries in its anti-money laundering reporting obligations, in addition to other issues, that arose as a result of a fraud scheme surrounding its auction of antique Indian stamps
  • Representation of GB Auto Services in dispute accusing Morpheus Investment of overstating its working capital in connection with GB Auto's acquisition of Morpheus's assets
  • Representation of American Bureau of Shipping in multibillion-dollar maritime litigation 
  • Representation of Boehringer Ingelheim, Hachette Filipacchi Presse, MediaNews Group, Ajinomoto, LeSportsac and EAS in trademark infringement and false advertising disputes 
  • Representation of Ratner Companies in obtaining a temporary injunction against a rival company
  • Representation of Central Bank of Paraguay in accomplishing recovery of funds stolen by former government officials
  • Advice to the American Museum of Natural History, Brooklyn Museum, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Nelson-Atkins Museum, Queens Museum of Art, Solomon Guggenheim Foundation, University of Pennsylvania and University of California in response to Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act claims, cultural patrimony issues and other matters
