Havalic, Malik

Malik Havalic is a Partner in the firm’s litigation department and member of the firm’s arbitration and antitrust groups. Malik has worked on complex commercial disputes, with a focus on cross-border litigation and international commercial and investment arbitration. He has been engaged in AAA/ICDR, ICSID, ICC, JAMS, and PCA arbitrations, and represented both sovereigns and investors in treaty arbitration as well as represented clients in federal and state courts. He has experience with the oil and gas, nuclear energy, aerospace and defense, life science, pharmaceuticals, financial services and technology, and news media industries, among others.

Malik is also committed to pro bono legal service. He is actively engaged with the International Refugee Assistance Project, he has also argued on behalf of pro bono clients in immigration, family, housing court, as well as the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.

  • Representation of a major pharmaceutical company in a AAA arbitration with another major pharmaceutical company arising out of a vaccine manufacturing agreement
  • Representation of U.S. subsidiary of a Japanese trading company in an action arising out of a reconnaissance system for the F-15 fighter 
  • Representation of U.S. uranium mining investor in arbitration proceedings against Turkey under the ICSID convention
  • Representation of Ukrainian investors in several UNCITRAL proceedings arising out of the Russian Federation’s breaches of international law in Crimea
  • Representation of Turkish oil and gas investor in arbitration proceedings against the Republic of Kazakhstan under the ICSID convention
