July 25, 2018 — Hughes Hubbard was recognized for its work on two matters at the Global M&A Network's 2018 Annual Turnaround Atlas Awards, which honors the year's top deals and firms in restructuring, distressed M&A and turnaround transactions.
 
The 10th Annual Awards Gala Ceremony was held July 19 at the Metropolitan Club in New York. Winners were selected independently based on "transaction turnaround performance metrics," firm expertise and team leadership.
 
The firm won "Chapter 11 Restructuring of the Year Award" for representing Republic Airways Holdings' in its $3.6 billion restructuring. HHR led Republic out of bankruptcy protection in April 2017 after a 14-month restructuring that ensured the Indianapolis-based airline's long-term viability and preserved over 5,000 jobs.
 
Chris Kiplok, who was named a 2018 "Dealmaker of the Year" by The American Lawyer for his role in the matter, led the HHR bankruptcy team. The team also included Meaghan Gragg, Jeff Margolin, Dustin Smith, Greg Farrell, Erin Diers, Margot Warhit and Danny Nuzzaci. John Hoyns, who has long overseen HHR's client relationship with Republic, supervised aviation finance matters in the case, with assistance from Mark Denham.
 
HHR's corporate team included Chuck Samuelson, Andy Braiterman, Spencer Harrison, Jenny Graham, Jim Delaney. Chris Paparella and Chris Gartman provided litigation advice. Bill Kolasky provided antitrust advice.
 
The firm also won "Shipping & Services Restructuring of the Year Award" for representing Ultrapetrol in its $800 million Chapter 11 case. HHR steered Ultrapetrol out of bankruptcy in March 2017, only 53 days after the international shipping company filed Chapter 11 protection. In December, globally renowned think tank M&A Advisor awarded the matter "Cross-Border Restructuring Deal of the Year."
