New York Law Journal Highlights the Successes and Strength of Hughes Hubbard’s Litigation Department

Sept. 5, 2025 – Following Hughes Hubbard’s recognition as a finalist for Litigation Department of the Year (General), the New York Law Journal published a spotlight on the firm’s litigation department and its recent successes.

In a Q&A, partner Dan Weiner, chair of the firm’s litigation department, discussed the firm’s recent litigation successes with NYLJ, including a landmark ~$500 million jury trial victory on behalf of the Danish Customs and Tax Administration, or Skatteforvaltningen (SKAT), as part of its sprawling multidistrict U.S. litigation to recover $2.1 billion stolen in an international tax-refund scam; guiding cryptocurrency trading platform Gemini Trust Company to over $2.1 billion in recoveries in the bankruptcy of cryptocurrency lender Genesis Global Capital; and winning dismissal of an action to recover one of Vincent van Gogh’s iconic Sunflowers paintings.
